Bio:
Broke Royals, hailing from Washington, DC, is celebrated for their "sing-along, arena-ready sound" (Billboard) and "pristine pop-rock" (Washington Post). Comprised of Philip Basnight (vocals, guitar), Colin Cross (drums), Taimir Gore (bass), Rebecca Basnight (keys), and Ben Wilson (guitar), the group has released three full-length albums to date, each showcasing their penchant for crafting emotionally resonant, hook-laden songs.
Their third album, "Local Support," released in July 2022 via Byrdland Records, marked a significant point in their career. The album was met with critical acclaim, earning a spot on Apple Music’s ALT CTRL, and coverage from outlets like Under the Radar magazine and Washington City Paper. DCist named Broke Royals one of the local bands to watch in 2023, highlighting their ability to meld the sounds of today with those of their heroes. Drawing on the invaluable experience gained from working with Bartees Strange, who produced "Local Support," the band infused new creative processes into their latest EP, "Big Dream," showcasing a matured sound that spans from the punchy pop radiance of the title track to the introspective folk stylings of “Toasted Almond.”
With "Big Dream," Broke Royals introduced a fresh dynamic by featuring different vocalists for the first time, highlighting the versatile talents within the band. This evolution not only refreshed their sound but also brought new energy to their music, evidenced by the compelling vocal performances of Rebecca Basnight and Taimir Gore. This move speaks to the band’s commitment to growth and experimentation, reinforcing why they remain a beloved staple in the indie music landscape.
As Broke Royals continue to navigate their musical journey, they remain focused on delivering high-energy performances and emotionally resonant songs that connect with audiences around the world. In addition to critical acclaim, Broke Royals has shared stages with icons like AWOLNATION, Dashboard Confessional, Car Seat Headrest, Michigander, and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.
